BEST AND BRIGHTEST: THE CHIEF SPRING SHOWCASE
Jeff Barnett-Winsby Jamie Warren Santiago Mostyn Maxim Ryazansky Brad Troemel
02 May. '08 - 12 Apr. '08
Opens: Friday May 2nd, 7PM
ChiefMag.com and The Arm enthusiastically present Best and Brightest: The Chief Spring Showcase, a group exhibition of five talented and accomplished photographers ripped from the interview catalogue of ChiefMag.com. To kick off this seasonal showcase series, Chief is exhibiting work by photographers Jamie Warren, Santiago Mostyn, Maxim Ryazansky, Brad Troemel, and Jeff Barnett-Winsby.
Best and Brightest: The Chief Spring Showcase is the first exhibition in a series of showcases featuring the MVPs of each season’s three online issues. Having featured each of these artists at ChiefMag.com, Chief is now partnering with Brooklyn’s The Arm to exhibit for viewing and purchase this collection of photographs, each with a unique perspective of Americana.
While each photographer’s vision and work is wholly individual, the photographs collected in this exhibition speak of the time and place in which we live. Jaimie Warren’s action-shot portraits are gritty and grungy with an underlying innocence while Brad Troemel’s colorful landscapes are both loud and sad. Santiago Mostyn’s selected photographs come from an ongoing documentary project of his wanderings down the Mississippi. Jeff Barnett-Winsby’s work includes starkly meditative portraits of American prisoners, and Max Ryazanksy’s photojournalism focuses on the bleak subcultures of this country not limited to a Ku Kulx Klan Christmas in Ohio.
The photographers featured in Best and Brightest: The Chief Spring Showcase have exhibited both group and solo shows throughout America and for the first time under one roof their work will be juxtaposed and engaged as a dialogue on American life. Only though a partnership with The Arm Gallery is Chief able to exhibit the work of these five accomplished photographers.
The opening reception will be Friday, May 2th 7pm-11pm with alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments as well as music by DJ Rev McFly and DJ Teenwolf.
The exhibition will be on view from Friday, May 5th through Monday, May 12th.
